SELECTION GUIDE

SIM Card Connector: Nano SIM, Micro SIM & Mini SIM Sockets

A SIM socket is chosen on card size, mechanism and profile height. KINGCONN publishes Nano SIM sockets at 1.24mm to 1.4mm profile, Micro SIM at 1.34mm to 1.5mm and Mini SIM from 1.8mm, in push-push, hinge and push-pull mechanisms with or without a card-detect pin. Card dimensions follow the ETSI specifications; KINGCONN values come from the part drawings.

Card sizes: 2FF, 3FF and 4FF

CardDimensionsKINGCONN profileWhere it is used
Mini SIM (2FF)25.0 × 15.0 mmfrom 1.8 mmindustrial routers, telematics, installed equipment
Micro SIM (3FF)15.0 × 12.0 mm1.34–1.5 mmtransition-era equipment, some industrial modules
Nano SIM (4FF)12.3 × 8.8 mm1.24–1.4 mmphones, IoT modules, new designs

The 3 sizes are not interchangeable in a socket — an adapter is a mechanical shim, not a conversion. New designs are almost always Nano; Mini SIM stays in production because industrial routers and telematics units in the field still use it.

Mechanism and card detect

MechanismHow it worksWhen to use it
Push-pushinsert to latch, push again to ejectequipment where the user swaps the SIM
Hinge / flipa lid folds down onto the cardfactory-configured, rarely changed; short body
Push-pull (no push)card pulled straight outfewest moving parts, least space
With CD pinany mechanism plus a card-detect contactfirmware needs to know whether a SIM is present

The card-detect pin is the one that gets forgotten. Connected equipment without it can only infer a missing SIM from a failed connection, which is indistinguishable from a network outage. It changes the terminal count, so decide before layout.

Materials and RFQ

Housings are LCP or high-temperature thermoplastic rated UL94V-0 with copper alloy contacts, RoHS compliant, and each published value carries its source drawing number. For the SIM pinout and the electrical interface see the SIM card pinout guide. Send your card size, mechanism and height limit to service@kingconn.com.tw.

FAQ

How do I choose a SIM socket?
3 things: the card size (Nano 4FF, Micro 3FF or Mini 2FF), the mechanism (push-push, hinge or push-pull, with or without a CD pin) and the profile height (KINGCONN publishes Nano at 1.24–1.4mm, Micro at 1.34–1.5mm and Mini from 1.8mm). New designs are almost always Nano.
What are the Nano, Micro and Mini SIM dimensions?
Per the ETSI specifications: Mini SIM (2FF) 25.0 × 15.0 mm, Micro SIM (3FF) 15.0 × 12.0 mm, Nano SIM (4FF) 12.3 × 8.8 mm. The sockets are not interchangeable; an adapter is only a mechanical shim.
What is the CD pin on a SIM socket for?
Card detect: it lets firmware know whether a SIM is seated and whether it has been removed. Without it, connected equipment can only infer from "no connection" and cannot separate a missing SIM from a network problem.
Hinge or push-push?
Hinge for a SIM fitted at the factory and rarely touched — shorter body, lower cost. Push-push where a user or field engineer swaps the card: positive eject feel and no need to leave room for a removal tool.
Why do SIM sockets have 6 or 8 positions?
The SIM card itself uses 6 contacts. The extra terminals on an 8-position part belong to a card-detect switch or to mechanical retention — the card never touches them.
