SELECTION GUIDE

Circuit Board Power Connectors: DC Power Jack & Cable Assembly

A DC power jack is selected barrel first: the plug outer and inner diameters must pair with the jack, because most field failures on power jacks are a mismatched plug rather than a bad jack. The KINGCONN JACK series publishes 5,000 mating cycles with copper alloy contacts and high-temperature thermoplastic housings; the Cable series is built to customer drawings at 5000 cycles.

Built-in switchbreaks the battery path on insertiondesigns that must disable the battery when powered

Cable assemblies: built to your drawing

The Cable series covers assemblies made to the customer drawing — connector to connector or connector to flying lead. KINGCONN makes the connector and the harness, so mating quality stays with 1 supplier rather than being argued between 2.

KINGCONN power jacks and cable assemblies

DC power jacks in through-hole and SMT versions, and cable assemblies: Type-C to Type-C with E-marker, Type-C to USB 3.0 A, RJ45 patch and USB 3.0 A to A.

What to put in the RFQ

For a jack: the mating plug drawing or part number, mounting style and orientation. For cable: the wiring table, length and the environment the harness works in. Send both to service@kingconn.com.tw and the Taoyuan R&D team returns drawings and samples.

FAQ

How do I select a DC power jack?
Match the barrel first: the plug outer and inner diameters must pair with the jack (most field failures on power jacks are a mismatched plug, not a bad jack). Then fix the mounting (through-hole, SMT or panel), whether you need the built-in switch, and finally check current and withstand voltage on the drawing. The KINGCONN JACK series publishes 5,000 mating cycles.
Is 5,000 cycles enough for a power jack?
For most equipment, yes: a power lead is usually connected and left. Where the user unplugs daily, look beyond the cycle count at contact normal force and how the part is anchored to the board.
Why do power jacks develop intermittent contact?
3 common causes: a barrel size mismatch (most common), fatigued contact springs, and solder joints torn by side load. The first is solved against the drawing, the other 2 by durability class and through-hole retention.
Can cable assemblies be built to my drawing?
Yes. The Cable series is built to customer drawings — connector to connector or connector to flying lead — with catalog parts published at 5000 mating cycles. KINGCONN makes both the connector and the harness, so the mating quality stays with 1 supplier.
What should the RFQ include?
For a jack: the mating plug drawing or part number, mounting style and orientation. For cable: the wiring table, length and the environment the harness works in. Send both to service@kingconn.com.tw.
