SELECTION GUIDE

RJ45, HDMI, D-Sub and SATA Connector Selection Guide

Board-end I/O for industrial equipment splits by interface, and the value that actually decides the part is the durability class — how often that port is unplugged in service. KINGCONN publishes RJ45 at 750 cycles, HDMI at 1500, 5,000 and 10000 cycles, D-Sub from 9 to 37 positions, and SATA at 500 cycles. Every value comes from the drawing on the part page.

RJ45: the industrial network port

Catalog RJ45 jacks are rated at 750 mating cycles with glass-filled PBT housings rated UL94V-0 — the standard wired network port for industrial controllers, gateways and panel equipment, with tab-up / tab-down, shielded, transformer and IP67 sealed versions on the drawings. For pinout and PoE see the RJ45 pinout guide.

HDMI: display output

HDMI receptacles are 19-position at 0.40mm and 0.50mm contact pitch, with durability classes of 1500, 5,000 and 10000 cycles. As with USB, pick the class from how often the port is really unplugged in service.

D-Sub: the interface that outlives everything

D-Sub remains the serial / parallel workhorse of industrial control. Catalog models cover 9, 15, 25 and 37 positions at 2.77mm pitch with brass or steel shells. If your old D-Sub source is discontinued, send the drawing — KINGCONN evaluates continuity from existing tooling.

SATA: internal storage

SATA connectors are listed at 1.27mm pitch in 3.50mm and 4.20mm heights at the 500 cycle class — matching a drive connection made a handful of times in the life of the equipment, not a hot-swap backplane.

FAQ

How do I select board-end I/O connectors for industrial equipment?
By interface: RJ45 for network (750 cycles), HDMI for display (19 positions, 1500 to 10000 cycles), D-Sub for serial / parallel control (9, 15, 25, 37 positions) and SATA for internal storage (500 cycles). Pick the durability class from how often that port is really unplugged in service, not from the interface reputation.
Why is SATA rated only 500 cycles?
Because it serves a drive connection made a handful of times in the life of the equipment, not a hot-swap backplane. 500 cycles is ample for "plugged once at build, a few times in service"; a backplane application should be specified separately.
Is D-Sub still used?
In industrial control it is still the serial / parallel workhorse, because the installed equipment and cable stock are still there. The catalog covers 9, 15, 25 and 37 positions at 2.77mm pitch; if your source went end-of-life, send the drawing for a continuity evaluation.
Which HDMI receptacle type should I use?
Mechanically: Type A is full size, Type C (mini) and Type D (micro) serve slim equipment; mid-mount thins the enclosure and a 90° right-angle part routes the cable sideways. Parts supporting 2.1 are marked in the catalog.
What if several interfaces sit together on the panel?
Combined-body parts exist — 7RJUS-F0-0008 carries RJ45 plus USB 2.0 in a single tab-up body with transformer, saving an opening and an alignment step. Send the panel layout and a custom combined body can be evaluated.
